Numerous windows open during debugging

Hello all

Im sure this is something minor that I am overlooking but for some reason when I go to debug my ssis package all these windows keep opening( callstack, watch1, watch2,watch3,breakpoints, etc) . I cant seem to find out how to disable these -- any suggestions? I dont remember actually setting these to run

thanks

kam

When in debug mode you can close the windows with the 'X' in the upper right hand corner of the window...|||

thanks

but last week I could run the ssis package and only have output, solution explorer, tools be the only visible windows now I get about 15 windows popping up

|||Sorry. Try closing them. While in debug mode you can go through the debug menu to chose windows.

Numerous Login failed for user 'sa' entries in the event viewer

Hello,
We have a Windows 2000 Server and SQL Server 2000. Lately in my event
viewer - Application Log I see just thousands of entries that state
18456 :
Login failed for user 'sa'. It happens just at random times and as far
as I know doesn't affect the server or access to it in any way.
Has anyone experinced this before? My first guess would be that it
could be some program trying to use the local 'sa' userID to login in
to SQL.
Any suggestions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
AlekHi Alek,
I would suggest using SQL Profiler to trace the login attempts. If your
server is accessed via the Internet I would also look at your firewall logs.

number of subscriptions shown in replication monitor is way too high

I set up a sql server 2005 database as publisher for about 50 sql mobile subscriptions. Yet in the replication monitor windows, it shows in subscription columns is 26549. Does it mean I have 26549 subsriptions or it means 26549 synchronizations?

thanks,

it means, that you have 26549 subscriptions

congratulation! you found a bug :-)

how many entries are in the sysmergesubscription-table?

Number of per seat Licences configured in sql server.

Hi, I have a server running windows 2000 server sp4, sql server 2000
sp3. When i installed the sql server software i Configured a 500 per
seat licences.
this week i check that the sql server is running about 578 concurrent
users, so my question is.
Is the server performance affected in this situation'
Do I have to configure more licences to let the server runs better than
now'
doesn´t it matter if I change the quantity of licences on the server'
Thanks a lot for your help.

The number of configured licences has no affect on performance.
SQL Server is licensed either Per Processor or Per CAL. Under CAL
licensing the licence agreement requires that you purchase a CAL for
each end user or client device. The number of concurrent users is
irrelevant (in fact SQL Server can't even tell you the number of
concurrent users - it only knows about the number of concurrent
*connections*, which may be more or may be less than the total number
of users or devices).
You should check this out for yourself at the licensing site but if you
have 500 users and just this one server then you will almost certainly
find it cheaper to buy processor licences instead of CALs.

Number of Nodes and Instance on Windows 2003 Cluster

How many Ressource group or Virtual SQL server may I run on on Windows 2003
cluster node ?
How many nodes can I have for an SQL Cluster architecture ? Apparently Four
? May someone confirm this number ? and is it four active instances or 3
active/ 1 passive ?
What happend if I have four SQL resource group with a eight nodes Windows
2003 cluter ?

SQL supports a 4 node cluster on a 32-bit OS. Each SQL supports 16
instances. Given that you have monster machines and an A/A/A/A cluster you
could have 64 databases in the cluster.
I am not aware of a limit to resource groups in clustering. Files shares
have been limited in the past
(http://support.microsoft.com/default...NoWebContent=1)
but I have not seen anything on Groups.

Windows 2000 = 2
Windows 2003 32 bit = 4
Windows 2003 64 bit = 8

With the 32-bit OS, yes.

You can do all 4 Active, though I would never do this.

SQL will only install on any 4, though I have not tested this.

|||Under Windows 2003 and SQL 2000 here are the rules.
Each cluster can have 8 host nodes.
Each cluster can have 16 instances. (Note that this is a Cluster-wide limit,
not a host node limit.
Each SQL instance can be installed on up to 4 nodes. (8 for 64-bit, it is an
installer limitation)
Each SQL Resource group = 1 instance.
Each SQL instance = 1 Resource group.
You can have non-SQL resource groups in the cluster, but it is generally a
bad idea except for the MSDTC resource group.
Forget you ever heard of 'active/active' or 'active/passive' or any
variation of those. Those terms referred to some technical limitations of
SQL 7.0 clustering and have no real meaning for SQL 2000 clustering.

Number of connections in XP Pro

We are planning multiple remote sites, each running 5 XP Pro or XP Embedded
which will logon to a Windows Server 2003 machine at Head Office via a WAN.
Each XP machine in the site will be replicating its single db to the 4
others via Merge Replication. We will also be using MSMQ 3 for
communication between 2 computers in any site.
I am unsure of how replication (and MSMQ) affects the 10 connections limit
of XP Pro. In replication, would there only be 1 incoming connection on
each machine? (i.e. The Publisher)
I bump into this limit all the time when running pro. The short answer is
you need to bypass this by using SQL Authentication and use a pull
subscription with FTP.
You may have to disable MSMQ, reboot, then ensure that the first thing you
do when you come up is download the snapshot. Then start up MSMQ.
After the snapshot is deployed you shouldn't have to use NT authentication
any more. You should be good from there.

NULL Exception Configuring SRS 2005

We just installed SQL Server 2005 w/SRS on a Windows 2003 box. I fired up
the Report Server Configuration Manager to, well, configure things. The
server status was green. When to the "Report Server Virtual Directory" and
clicked "New". It seemed to do it's thing, then all of a sudden the tool
just exited without any messages.
Now when we go back into the tool, the Report Server Virtual Directory icon
is green, but when we try to go to that tab, we get the following error:
There was an error while switching panels. The most likely cause is an
error retrieving WMI properties. The exception details are:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
We have several web sites defined in IIS (including having SBS installed
w/Sharepoint). I was unable to find the ReportServer virtual directory
created in any of them. Nor where the SRS app pools created. The Report
Server Virtual Directory icon is grayed out.
Any suggestions on how to proceed to resolve this error?
Thanks,

One thought would be to check the EventViewer for SSRS/IIS-related
errors. They might lead you to a more informative error. Also, you
might check the SSRS log files, if SSRS was installed to that point.
They are usually located in this path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\<MSSQL.2 -or- MSSQL.3>\Reporting Services\LogFiles. As a last
resort, you could try uninstalling and reinstalling SSRS/SQL Server.
Hope this helps.

Sr. Software Consultant|||Chris,
I don't know if this is related to your issue, but I just ran into the same
problem in Reporting Services Configuration Manager.
After Setting up SharePoint Integration the Report Manager section is grayed
out because Report Manager isn't needed in SharePoint integrated mode. When
I clicked on that section I saw a message saying that it's not supported and
that I should uninstall it to reduce the security footprint of the server.
It sounded like a good idea so I uninstalled the Report Manager portion of
SRS. Well that lead to the error you're seeing.
I reinstalled Report Manager and now I can get back into the Report Server
Virtual Directory section.
Seems like a bug to me.
Is Report Manager installed on this machine, and can you get into that
section of the Configuration Manager?
